North Malta is a relatively popular destination for tourists seeking a quiet sun-filled holiday, thanks to its white sandy beaches, rolling hills, quaint villages, vibrant shopping and exciting nightlife. Though this is a considerable boon for the local and national economies, certain localities tend to get rather crowded during the summer months.
The north of Malta is a relatively popular destination for tourists seeking a quiet sun-filled holiday, thanks to its white sandy beaches, rolling hills, quaint villages, vibrant shopping and exciting nightlife. Though this is a considerable boon for the local and national economies, certain localities tend to get rather crowded during the summer months.
Buġibba, Qawra and St. Julian’s, in particular see a major influx of tourists, while Sliema is busy all year round. If you like the hustle and bustle of a busy sea-side town, Sliema is the place to be, with interesting property options that often provide an excellent sea view.
If you feel a home should be a retreat from the busy feel of everyday life, or you simply want a place which can offer a slower, less stressful lifestyle, there are several other options to consider in the North of Malta.
Though the North of Malta tends to be popular with tourists, many residential areas are cut off from hotels and are much quieter and often surrounded by the countryside (in a part of the island which is less densely populated than the eastern and southern parts of Malta). Driving through Burmarrad, Bidnijia, Wardija, Mġarr and Żebbiegħ, you will see they are located in rural areas. Another locality worth noting is that of Manikata, which is located nearby Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa, more towards the western part of the island. Being a relatively secluded village, it puts you right in the middle of the countryside (on the edge of a natural reserve, Il-Majjistral), yet with easy access to some of the island’s most beautiful sandy beaches and having all amenities nearby.
Finally, one of the most attractive villages of the island, Mellieha, is located towards the Northern most part of the island. Having been built on a hilltop, parts of Mellieha offer a stunning view of Malta’s largest sandy beach (Mellieħa Bay) and offers a mix of different types of properties – with Santa Marija Estate offering highly-desirable properties. Mellieħa also offers substantial countryside and easy access to clear bathing waters, although it offers more of a typically-Maltese village life compared to other localities in the Northern part of the island.
