Shopping, Leisure and History

Marsascala is an ancient fishing village in Malta, with a picturesque bay, located in the southeast corner of the island. The town has a population of around 10,024 people and used to form part of Zabbar in the 19 th Century. The town has grown up around the sheltered bay, Marsascala Creek, and is protected by the headland of Ras il-Gżira to the south and by Ras iż-Żonqor, to the north.

The town of Marsascalla stretches on both sides of Marsascala’s bay, with a promenade continuing all the way to St Thomas Bay, with fantastic views of low shelving rocks, colourful fishing boats and saltpans. In summer, the population of Marsascalla rises to 20,000 in summer and the village is buzzing with life as many Maltese families have summer homes in this lovely, picturesque bay. Marsascalla has a range of modern leisure facilities, bars and restaurants to enjoy all year round.

The locality of Marsascala is a popular destination for locals and tourists – a colourful fishing village, the U-shaped bay features a seafront promenade, cluster of quality restaurants and cafes, and modern leisure facilities – all within twenty minutes’ drive of the airport and capital Valletta.
