Smart City, Malta

More than a lifestyle, the next level of seafront living.

Located in Kalkara in the south of the island, the project epitomises the ‘media city’ concept, blending information technology, business, residential, and leisure in one dynamic development. Luxury real estate housed in SmartCity include premium apartments, detached villas, and townhouses – all designed for the Mediterranean lifestyle and surrounded by serviced common grounds and landscaped gardens. SmartCity is one of Malta’s largest, most ambitious development projects; encompassing an area of 360,000 square metres along the south Maltese coast, the site will house a modern mix of offices and retail spaces, luxury residential property, and open areas complementing the surroundings, centred on a flowing lagoon with views over the open Mediterranean.

The Shoreline

The Shoreline is a newly proposed extension of the existing Smart City lifestyle development with over 400 residencies planned featuring some luxurious seafront villas, spacious apartments, and penthouses many of which will have breath-taking sea views, as well as an underlying retail shopping mall, communal swimming pools, and residential car parking facilities. Proposed adjacent works include a branch of Sapienza Universita de Roma, a state-of-the-art hospital, 300 room 5-star Marriott hotel, and a hospitality campus to cater for 2,500 students. Proposed infrastructure projects such an undersea direct route linking Sliema to Valletta and beyond to the Three Cities will aid in accessibility.

History and Culture

Smart City and the Shoreline Development are located in a quiet city of Kalkara.

Kalkara is a small town with an area with a population of approximately 3,000 people. Kalkara is located in the Eastern part of Malta and it looks over the Grand Harbour. The town gets its name from the Calce, lime in Italian, since there was a lime kiln present there during the Roman times. Kalkara has two bays leading to the Grand Harbour known as Rinella Bay and Kalkara Creek and two peninsulas called Bighi and Ricasoli. Despite its small size, the city does not luck in culture. Kalkara is famous for its Fort Ricasoli, Fort our Saviour, Villa Bighi, and Villa Portelli.
